Specializing in Foot & Heel Pain Treatment in Edmonton

The way our feet interact with the surface on which we walk, run and play is referred to as Biomechanics. When this interaction does not take place the way it should, it leads to foot and heel pain. At White Oaks Foot & Ankle Clinic in Edmonton, we provide professional treatments for foot and ankle pain.

The factors responsible for causing foot pain include overwhelming pressure on ligaments and heel bones due to jumping on hard surfaces and wearing footwear that does not provide optimum support.

More reasons that cause foot and heel pain are:

  • Plantar fasciitis: A very common source of foot pain is plantar fasciitis, in which the most frequent signs are discomfort under the heel or ankle – sometimes before you get out of bed in the morning. This condition rarely improves without adequate care.

  • Heel spurs: Heel spurs are formed on the underside of the heel bone and are also associated with poor biomechanics. Patients usually experience discomfort as the inflammation progresses to the point that the spur is developed. Heel spurs may develop without discomfort but usually get worse over time.

  • Achilles tendinitis: Achilles tendinitis is a swelling of the tendon that is connected to the back of the heel bone. The disorder may be caused by poor biomechanics, illness, over-training or excessive warm-up. The disease may be treated with a wide variety of traditional therapies, such as orthotics, ESWT, ice, aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines.

  • Pump bump: Haglund's deformity or pump bump is the increase in the size of the bone at the back of the heel near the region where the Achilles Tendon is connected to the bone. The deformity is usually caused by weak biomechanics that accelerate the friction of the heel bone towards the back of the foot.
